Suzuki’s iconic SV650 may be preparing to exit the UK market in 2026, but its much-loved 645cc V-twin engine is far from finished. The proven platform is set to continue in the all-new SV-7GX sports touring middleweight, with prices starting at £6,999 on the road.
Built to compete with bikes like the Yamaha Tracer 7 and Kawasaki Versys 650, the SV-7GX combines sporty performance with touring comfort. Power comes from an updated Euro5+ compliant 645cc 90-degree V-twin engine producing 72.4bhp at 8,500rpm and 47.2lb.ft of torque at 6,800rpm. The addition of ride-by-wire technology also brings modern electronics, including riding modes, traction control, and a standard up/down quickshifter.
Since its debut in 1999, Suzuki has produced more than 500,000 motorcycles using versions of this dependable V-twin engine, earning a reputation for durability and long-distance reliability. In a market now dominated by parallel twins, the SV’s distinctive V-twin character continues to stand out.
The new SV-7GX keeps familiar design touches such as the trellis frame and exhaust layout, while introducing adventure-inspired bodywork and hand guards similar to the larger GSX-S1000GX. Full LED lighting is now standard, while the old LCD display has been replaced by a modern 4.2-inch TFT screen with navigation support and multiple layouts.
Riders also benefit from smartphone connectivity for calls, messages, route tracking, and parked-bike location services, alongside a convenient USB-C charging port.
Comfort has clearly been a priority, with a reshaped rider and passenger seat featuring thicker padding for longer journeys. The handlebars are positioned closer and higher than before for a more relaxed riding stance, while the footpegs sit slightly lower to improve comfort on extended rides.
The bike features a three-position adjustable windscreen, a 17.4-litre fuel tank, and a manageable 795mm seat height. Weighing a claimed 211kg, the narrow V-twin layout should make the bike approachable for a wide range of riders.
Suspension duties are handled by 41mm front forks and a preload-adjustable rear shock, while braking comes from dual front discs with four-piston callipers. Suzuki has also upgraded the tyre package, fitting high-quality Pirelli Angel GT II sports-touring tyres as standard — a welcome improvement over previous OE rubber choices.
The new SV-7GX will be available in three colour options, with optional luggage accessories including side panniers and a top case for touring riders.
